Job Description: Parent Educator
Position Overview:
The Parent Educator is responsible for providing comprehensive support and guidance to parents and families in various social work and human services settings. By utilizing a strengths-based approach, the Parent Educator aims to enhance parenting skills, promote child and family well-being, and foster healthy family dynamics. This role requires strong interpersonal skills, exceptional communication abilities, and a deep understanding of child development and family systems.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Conduct parent education sessions and workshops to enhance parenting skills, focusing on topics such as positive discipline, effective communication, child development, and healthy family dynamics.
2. Develop and implement individualized parenting plans and strategies tailored to each family's unique needs, goals, and challenges.
3. Provide ongoing support and guidance to parents through regular home visits, phone consultations, and group support sessions.
4. Collaborate with other professionals, including social workers, psychologists, and healthcare providers, to ensure comprehensive and coordinated services for families.
5. Conduct assessments and evaluations to identify areas of improvement and track progress in parenting skills and family dynamics.
6. Assist parents in accessing community resources, such as childcare services, mental health support, and educational programs, to promote family well-being.
7. Advocate for families' rights and needs within the social services system, ensuring they receive appropriate support and services.
8. Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of all interactions, progress reports, and case records in compliance with organizational and regulatory requirements.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
1. Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Human Services, Psychology, or a related field. Master's degree preferred.
2. Minimum of 2 years of experience working in family services, parent education, or a related field.
3. Comprehensive knowledge of child development principles and family systems theory.
4. Strong understanding of trauma-informed care and culturally responsive practices.
5. Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to establish rapport and build trust with diverse populations.
6. Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively convey complex information and provide clear guidance.
7. Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
8. Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.
9. Proficiency in using computer applications and databases for documentation and record-keeping purposes.
10. Valid driver's license and access to reliable transportation for home visits and community outreach.
